What is Pilates?

The Pilates Matwork Method, although an exercised based system, is not simply a series of exercises but a complete approach to developing body awareness and an easy physicality in day-to-day life. The Pilates Method aims to develop the body’s ‘centre’ in order to create a stable core for all types of movement, enabling the body to move with maximum efficiency and minimum effort. It is gentle but focussed exercise with the potential to become aerobic in its advanced form. The Method tones, stretches and mobilises and is often used to rehabilitate injuries, making it popular with dancers, athletes and anyone who wants to develop their individual physique and physical potential.

Classes

Pilates work requires a skilled and committed teacher. It is also essential that classes are small, allowing the teacher to provide individual focus, care and attention for every pupil. Matwork Classes seldom exceed eight participants. Pupils must inform the teacher of any physical conditions or issues which may be relevant, prior to commencing a course.

Personal Tuition

Personal tuition can be valuable in dealing with a specific problem or issue, in preparation to join a general class or as support for practice at home. These sessions are intended for one pupil but can be shared by two people subject to suitability and approval.
