Therapies > La Stone Massage
Stones have been used in ceremonies and treatments that are as old as the Incas, the Shang Dynasty in China of around 1500BC and the ancient Egyptians Pyramids. Even cowboys used heated stones under their bedding to keep themselves warm at night.

LaStone therapy was developed in the early 1990’s but its roots come from Native American traditions and beliefs.

Fragrant Aromatic Plants are used to create Essential Oils

LaStone massage is a form of bodywork that involves the use of warmed volcanic rocks and subtly cooled marble stones applied to the body in various ways to bring relief to stiff and sore muscles.

The aim of a LaStone treatment is to cause a 'rollercoaster' effect using hot and cold. This rollercoaster effect gives the internal organs of the body a workout, by continuously pushing and pulling the blood to and from the surface of the body. This effect allows optimum healing to take place within the body whilst you are in a state of relaxation both physically and emotionally.

LaStone massage has been referred to as the ‘Power of Ten’ this is because every one movement of the stones is equivalent to ten of the same movement of the hands, thus providing a much deeper and more effective body massage

Heated stones are kept at a temperature of around 55˚C and the chilled stones between 1-4˚C, although temperatures can be changed to suit the needs of the client.

What to Expect
A LaStone treatment begins with getting a detailed consultation to find out the best application of the stones to benefit you.

I will then choose between 12-16 stones both heated and chilled that I will place on the couch for you to lie on. Many clients find this extremely relaxing and soon forget they are there.

Before I begin the application of the massage I will open the chakras to allow the body to get the best energy possible from the stones. Chakra stones are also placed on the top of the body.

The massage then begins. Both heated and chilled stones are used to help relax and revive the body and the mind. Once the front of the body has been massaged all stones on and under the body are removed and you are turned over to continue the massage on the back of the body. Only one stone is placed under the front of the body to balance the work that will be done on the back.

At the end of the massage the chakras are closed and spinal spirals are performed using a selenite wand and the body is cleansed with the use of a smudge stick.

Benefits of Heated Application

• Increases circulation - floods the body with oxygenated blood
• Increases metabolism - improves the rate at which the body processes foods, toxins, burns energy, and clears through
• Increases pulse rate - increasing circulation and pumps the heart faster
• Increases cell metabolism - the rate at which the body manufactures good chemicals e.g. hormones
• Increases lymph function - the bodies waste disposal system
• Reduces spacticity in the muscle - allowing increased range work and reduced tension
• The body becomes deeply relaxed, healing takes place more efficiently

Benefits of Chilled Application

• Analgesic effect - the body releases a natural pain relief substance (Prostaglandin) which in turn reduces muscle spindle spacticity
• 'shock' effect of temperature change - increases circulation/oxygenation of the blood
• Reduction of inflammation - excess blood sent away from area

What Is LaStone Good For?

• A deep tissue healing treatment.
• A detoxification treatment
• An immune system function booster
• An energy treatment
• A sanctuary for the soul
