Therapies > Injury Rehabilitation
The importance of receiving prompt treatment of any injury cannot be stressed enough. Any delay in treatment of an acute injury by as little as a few hours, can result in a secondary injury that further damages the surrounding tissues.

Delay in the treatment of an injury causes further inflammation which is not only painful, but can keep you from returning to normal function for weeks.

With correct treatment, regardless of whether the injury is acute or chronic, the return to normal function can be achieved in a matter of days; in fact, people who receive treatment within the first minutes of injury often achieve a significant level of recovery in a matter of hours.
Sports Injuries require prompt treatment

Modern use of modalities such as electrotherapy and ultrasound expedite the natural healing capabilities of the body. For example, electrotherapy involves using electrical stimulation on injured muscles. This procedure encourages the muscle to contract gently in a controlled manner. One benefit of this is that it makes the muscle act as a pump, thereby directly reducing any local swelling. Another benefit of electrotherapy is that the electrical stimulus assists in 'polarising' any scar tissue being laid down, so that the injured tissues do not heal in a state of constriction or contraction. Similarly, the use of ultrasound on injured tissue (as an adjunct to other sports therapy modalities) has been shown to reduce the amount of time needed to restore tissues to pre-injury function.

Therefore take the right steps with a potentially explosive injury situation and seek professional treatment to defuse possible long-term problems.

Sports therapy deals with the treatment of acute and chronic soft tissue damage (muscles, tendons and ligaments) by using a variety of modalities such as heat, cold, electrical muscle stimulation, ultrasound and massage. These treatments, will reduce swelling and inflammatory changes as rapidly as possible so that normal function can be resumed with the minimum of delay.

Injuries need not necessarily be sports related but can be associated with any soft tissue injury e.g. Repetitive Strain Injury or RSI (computer shoulder or wrist etc).
